ABOUT

Substance Abuse and HIV Integrated Prevention Services (SHIPS) for African-American Women

SHIPS is a direct prevention intervention project for heterosexual Black-Non-Hispanic females at highest risk for HIV and substance use disorders living in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The strategies to be implemented include:

• Linking participants to care

• Creating public messages and awareness campaigns

• Social media campaigns for HIV and Viral Hepatitis (VH) screening and testing

• HIV and VH screening and testing

• Education and training for substance use disorders and HIV providers and other health care providers

STAFF

  Gail Lankford
President/Program Director

Dr. Gail M. Lankford is the President and CEO of Bayshore Community Counseling Services, Inc. (BCCS). At BCCS, she leads human capital programs and conducts community coalition building, alcohol and other drug prevention services, health disparities and injustices
activities, and promotes community leadership. Dr. Lankford is passionate about helping individuals meet their career goals in behavioral health. She retired from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) as the Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Rehabilitation in the School of Pharmacy &  Health Professions.

Reneta Cunningham CCHW/Lead Navigator

Reneta Cunningham is a Certified Community Health Worker. She aims to bridge the gap between equitable social services and marginalized communities. For the past 10 years, Reneta has advocated for women, men, and children whose voices are often unheard and concerns underserved. It is her personal mission to promote, provide, and link clients and peers to equitable community services.

Mellanese Alexander
CCHW

Mellanese Alexander is a Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW). Mellanese has a passion for community engagement, education, and prevention services. She believes that educating members of the community on healthy lifestyle choices empowers them to make the best decision for themselves and their families.
